Family Guy: “Pick Up Your Ears.” Ear Sex is Not Right!

by Staff Writer

Mayor Adam West is really one of the unsung characters on Family Guy. This week’s episode opened with him shooting a pizza guy with a cat launching crossbow for bringing him Canadian bacon on his pizza, instead of actual bacon. What really makes it for me is that it’s really Adam West’s voice. Picturing him way back when on the old TV Batman and then seeing him do a show like this, is hilarious in and of itself. Needless to say I laughed pretty hard at him launching cats with a crossbow.

The main plot of the episode was Lois finding out that Chris’s school had canceled sex-ed class. Which in turn gave Lois a lot more playing time in this episode. I normally like only the big three to control the episodes: Brian, Peter, and Stewie. But, Lois did a great job. Especially when she came in dressed as Grimace for role-playing night.

Again this episode they played on the gullibility of teenagers just like they did in “Saving Private Brian, with the whole Army recruiting video at the school. This week they brought in David Cross to play Reverend Kirkwood. I miss David Cross, and though his parts were funny in this episode he was extremely underused. We never saw him outside of the school. He could’ve been used much better if he would have maybe been invited over to the Griffin’s house for dinner and tie him in with Stewie and Brian’s storyline.

Speaking of their storyline, Stewie plans to capture the Toothfairy, who we find out is some weird pedophile-like man wearing ratty fairy wings and has a pile of teeth in his house that he rolls around in. I loved the Airplane reference when everyone was lining up to slap Stewie when he was screaming.

Most of the gags and references in this episode really worked. The Michael Jackson reference having him say “The grown-up in me loves the kid in me, was classic. The Tetris gag was hilarious. Everyone’s been in that situation where they have one of those long skinny pieces and somehow it moves over at the most inopportune moment and screws your whole game up. Stewie pretending to be Gary Busey with the old man’s false teeth was hilarious too.

Oh, I almost forgot, Meg…She actually did stuff in this episode. But, it was only ‘Ear Sex,’ which every teenager in Quahog starts doing because they have sworn abstinence. ‘Ear Sex,’ where’d they come up with that? That’s twisted, even for Family Guy standards.

  1. Lucas Says:

One of the greatest moments in Adam West’s reign as mayor of Quahog was when he was shooting the cats at the pizza delivery man. Afterwards, he collected them all up and then he started talking to Paul. “Paul is a human name.” Adam West is my hero!

  2. Moose Says:

Hey, good synopsis… but you didn’t mention the “Airplane” movie reference! When Stewie is freaking out after hearing Brian tell him what the Tooth Fairy does, they scene finishes with a “Calm down, get a hold of yourself!” line of people with various items waiting to beat on Stewie… classic!

  3. Maximus Says:

I would like to see a continuation of the topic

  4. He's just this guy Says:

As a matter of fact. There was a doonesbury comic some time in the past… we’re talking 10 or so years ago where a little girl doesn’t fully grasp what her parents are talking about and then repeats the phrase “aural sex” which is pretty much the same gist as “ear sex” in Family guy, not to be a downer, but originality isn’t on Seth’s side on that “twisted” idea
