Family Guy: “Saving Private Brian”

by Staff Writer

Welcome everyone! To the 451 Press Family Guy Blog.

The World Series is now over, and we can all get back to watching The Family Guy without interruption. It’s been a while since a new Family Guy episode, but what a great one to come back with.

The main plot of this episode was a Stewie/Brian one. Those ones are the best I think. I always think back to the episode “Road Trip to Europe and remember how much I laughed then. The Army comes to recruit high school kids, showing them a movie about the Army that looks oddly like an alcohol/tobacco advertisement. The slogan being, “The Army, AWWW YEAH! Obviously if you join the Army there will be bikini clad girls and mountains of cash everywhere you go.

When Brian goes to talk to the recruiter because he’s trying to brainwash the kids, Stewie ends up signing them up for the Army. When the Army recruiter asks Stewie if he’s too young to be in the Army, Stewie says, “I have that Webster disease. Speaking of Stewie he’s still flirting (literally) with that homosexual boundary. For a while now Stewie has become increasingly gay in his tendencies. I’m not sure how much I like it, but this was the first episode we really saw Stewie’s evil side again. When he capped the Vaudville Guys (a long-running gag on the show) I about laughed my head off.

There was actually a lot of blood in this episode. From the death of the Vaudville guys, to Brain and Stewie shooting each other in the foot so they can get out of the Army. It’s funny how self-aware Family Guy is becoming. I loved the “no clip? I thought we had a clip. Bit that Stewie pulled.

The other storyline was Chris joined some kind of hardcore metal band and took his life lessons from the Wu Tang Clan and Marilyn Manson. That storyline seemed a bit dated, and not as interesting as Brian and Stewie’s.

Brian and Stewie still continue to be the driving force of the show. Peter is funny, but sometimes can become too much. I love when Brian and Stewie team up. They play off each other so well.

Overall this was the best episode of this still young season. Here’s hoping for more Brian/Stewie episodes.

    Aaron,

I look forward to this blog. I will probably comment quite a bit on here because I think that Family Guy is one of the best shows. My opinion was once again confirmed by the new episode “Saving Private Brian.”

I would also agree that the Stewie/Brian stories always crack me up. If any of you guys haven’t laughed at their improv duet, in “Road Trip to Europe” when they stole the camel, I will fight you. It is also interesting, like you (Aaron) suggeseted, to see how the writers of this wonderful series is becoming self-aware and continuing to feed off their own long-running jokes. When Stewie shot the Vaudeville guys was hilarious.

Well, I will be back later.

I told you that I would be back. I found this intersting and fun quiz to take to find out which Griffin you are. Maybe you could post it to see which Griffin your fans are. Just a little tip. take it or leave it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/apps/ifl/comedy/quizengine?quiz=familyguy;templateStyle=familyguy;pagerType=alternating;pagerData=1;filter_2_type=shuffle;filter_2_data=1

I’m with you 100%, Brian/Stewie episodes are the best (and this one was pretty damn good!). They do play off of each other - their banter is hilarious and serious (I mean, Brian and Stewie at Jillian’s apartment in Whistle While Your Wife Works? LOL). They’re going to air a new Road To… episode (Road to Rupert), or so Wikipedia says. Can’t wait!

  7. Aaron Says:

    Caroline,
Thanks for stopping by. Yes I’m looking forward to another “Road To…” episode. I love that Wikipedia episode list I’m going to do a post about it here in the near future.
